Do You Need a Certification to Practice EFT Tapping?

Do You Have To Be Certified To Teach EFT Tapping?

EFT Certification

The short answer is yes. There are different levels to becoming an EFT Practitioner—from basic to advanced. With further accreditations, you can choose to become an EFT Facilitator or Trainer.

Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT Tapping is possibly one of the most powerful alternative healing therapies in today’s times.

A fine fusion of traditional medicine and modern psychology, EFT Tapping is having a remarkable impact on thousands of people across the globe, with ample clinical data to vouch for its efficacy.

With that said, we cannot ignore the fact that the journey from learning a technique to mastering it is long and full of new experiences.

My journey from a non-believer to being an EFT Practitioner and Trainer!

Having done my doctorate in Cancer Research from Oxford University, I was convinced that science is the only way forward and that anything that deviates from it is plain buffoonery.

Essentially, I thought medicine – in its most conventional form – is the only hope and the only cure for all the ailments in the world.

The other women in my life—my mother and sister—were familiar with alternative emotional wellness therapies.

My sister used to run workshops on an alternative technique that involved touching certain points on the face and upper body. She believed that this helps alleviate physical and emotional pains.

Once I was visiting her and she was conducting a similar workshop at her home. I mocked her relentlessly from afar and laughed at how stupid my sister could be to believe that something so bizarre can work.

That was the first time I watched alternative therapy in action.

I had migraines and used to have splitting headaches on a daily basis. Nothing was helping and I thought I was doomed for life.

One day when I was at my mother’s, I had a similar headache. My mum noticed and suggested that I try out this alternative therapy she knew. I agreed begrudgingly.

The alternative therapy she used was Emotional Freedom Techniques.

That’s how I was introduced to it and decided to learn it professionally. Professional training and years of practice turned out to be inadequate when it came to sharing the magic of EFT with others.

Of course, I was helping people but there is something to be said about enabling and empowering people to help themselves and others with something that has helped you so much.

Anything you want can come true if you cast it in the form of a ‘golden goal’ and apply EFT (Matrix Reimprinting) to get clear and activate it ‘in the matrix’”.

New to EFT? Learn how Emotional Freedom Technique Tapping heals.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (tapping) is clinically proven to lower stress, tension, anxiety, past-trauma to enable health, happiness and vitality.

The best way to learn a new concept is to first understand its very foundation.

EFT Tapping being an alternative healing therapy that purposively addresses the emotional aspect of issues, will definitely need a thorough introduction before you go on to use it to help yourself or others.

The best way to begin your EFT journey is by grasping some of the foundational concepts involved. Therefore, foundational training is a must in order for you to lay the basis for meaningful and rich practice.

EFT Foundation Training, as the name suggests, aims at familiarizing a person with the foundational concepts of EFT such as what EFT Tapping really is, what is its origin and background, how and in what areas it works, etc.

Primarily, the purpose of EFT Foundational Training is to serve as more of a self-help tool.

It’s a great way to get started if you are looking for a fuss-free alternative healing therapy that will come handy in your personal development journey.

Here’s a list of the topics or concepts that you can expect to be covered in EFT Foundational Training:

  • How EFT Tapping can be used as a self-help tool and with friends and family
  • Origins and background of EFT
  • The full EFT tapping sequence as developed by founder Gary Craig
  • Shorter tapping sequence
  • EFT Tapping for stress relief and anxiety
  • How to eliminate physical pain
  • EFT Tapping for negative events/memories
  • Tapping away dis-empowering emotions
  • EFT Tapping for cravings and fears

For instance, The Basic Recipe of EFT Tapping is one of the most basic yet extremely illuminating topics the EFT Foundational Training’s curriculum consists of. Here’s a recap of it:

Measure the problem on a scale of 1 to 10.

  • Ask “What number would you give this problem on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is a very big problem and 1 is rather a small problem?
  • If there is a feeling, ask “On a scale of 1 to 10 how intense is the feeling where 10 is very intense and 1 very mild?”
  • Alternatively, for physical tension, you are suggested to ask “On a scale of 1 to 10 what number should I allot this tension where 10 is very high and 1 is not high at all?”
  • The Setup… While continuously tapping on the Karate Chop point, repeat this affirmation three times: ‘Even though I have this (name the problem), I deeply and completely accept myself.’

The Setup

While continuously tapping on the Karate Chop point, repeat this affirmation three times:

Even Though I Have (Highlight the Problem), I Deeply And Completely Accept Myself.’

The tapping sequence

Tap about 7 times on the following energy points and repeat the Reminder Phrase at each point.

  • Eyebrow Side of Eye
  • Under Eye
  • Chin
  • Collarbone
  • Under Arm Thumb
  • Index Finger
  • Middle Finger
  • Little Finger
  • Karate Chop

The 9 Gamut Procedure:

Continuously Tap On The Gamut Point While Performing Each Of The FOLLOWING Actions:

  • Eyes closed
  • Eyes open
  • Eyes hard down to the right
  • Eyes hard down to the left
  • Roll eyes in the clockwise direction
  • Roll eyes in the anti-clockwise direction
  • Hum 2 seconds of a song
  • Count to 5
  • Hum 2 seconds of a song.

This process allows your left as well as right brain to engage in creating a balance.

The tapping sequence (again)… Tap about 7 times on the energy points and repeat the Reminder Phrase at each point.

‘Even Though I Have (Name The Problem You're Facing), I Deeply And Completely Accept Myself.’

Measure the problem from 1 to 10 and repeat if necessary

Note: In subsequent rounds, it is necessary that the Setup affirmation and the Reminder Phrase are adjusted to address the remaining problem:

i.e. “Even though I still have some of (mention your problem)…“ (Setup) “This remaining (problem)…“ (Reminder Phrase)

By the end of your EFT Foundational Training, you get a certificate to use EFT as a self-help tool and with friends and family.

“Anything you want can come true if you cast it in the form of a ‘golden goal’ and apply EFT (Matrix Reimprinting) to get clear and activate it ‘in the matrix’.”

You will be awarded a Practitioner Certificate on completion of case studies and a multiple-choice test.

For instance, one of the topics that we cover in the EFT Practitioner Training (Level- 2) is Borrowing Benefits. Here’s a recap of it:

When tapping along a group, video or audio of EFT sessions, you might notice a reduction in emotional intensity or a shift in perspective or awareness.

These shifts and changes are what we call Borrowing Benefits. It happens when you are mirroring the client’s issues.

Borrowing Benefits could also be understood as a strategy to set an intention for a practitioner to turn inward and work on their own issues before trying to help others with largely unrelated issues.

EFT Practitioner Training

EFT Advanced Practitioner Training focuses on:

  • Identifying core issues and resolving them
  • Ways to work with the inner/wounded child
  • Uncovering and integrating limiting parts
  • Awareness of sub-personalities and archetypes
  • Creative use of language
  • Re-framing old issues and pre-framing
  • The value of forgiveness and love
  • How to use intuition and creativity
  • Working with serious diseases, psychological issues and impairments
  • Advanced rapport, calibration, questioning, dissociation/association and choices
  • Unstructured tapping transitioning from science to art
  • Self-monitoring and supervision
  • Peak performance and abundance
  • Tapping for business success and energy marketing

To give you an idea of the concepts covered in this level of training, here is a brief explanation of pre-framing:

Pre-framing is where you frame a piece of information before you share it.

For example, if you were to share a piece of bad news with someone, you can reframe it by saying, “I am really sorry I have some bad news to share.”

Or in case of client sessions during the consultation call, you can pre-frame what to expect in therapy. Pre-framing sets the expectations of your client and sessions as in what you can and cannot offer.

Tapping away dis-empowering emotions

Certification does not come easy. To get certified as an EFT Practitioner, you need to demonstrate that you have the skillset to establish a practice that successfully ensures happiness and safety of your clients.

You must be wondering what are the keys factors you will be evaluated on.

Here’s an overview of the necessary skills you need to have to get certified as an EFT Practitioner.

step 1

questioning skills

What does that feeling remind you of?

Where do you feel that right now?

What SUDs level is it?

step 2

How are you getting the information?

Is the client’s body language being noticed?

Are appropriate listening skills being used?

step 3

are you keeping the client safe?

Not contaminating the client’s words\Utilising any safety techniques

Being respectful of the client in all ways

Being non-judgemental.

Being aware of anything they were triggered by during the session

Explaining what the client feels now is a trigger and not what is happening now.

step 4

Do you notice any projections or countertransferences taking place?

step 5

are you using a variety of measurement tools (SUD, VOC, etc.)?

step 6

are you fully aware of ‘aspects’?

step 7

are you moving with each aspect as it comes up but remembering to go back to the original aspect to check it’s been cleared?

step 8

are you being specific enough?

step 9

do you with the client and their beliefs or are they putting on their own interpretations?

step 10

are you testing sufficiently to establish if the emotion has been neutralised?

step 11

are you ‘present’ at all times in the session giving their client full connection and focus?

step 12

do you remain aware of the ‘clock’ time and 10 minutes from the end, mentioning there are 10 minutes left in order to prepare the client’s subconscious and avoid any new issues arising?

step 13

Were issues isolated? if yes, How was the issue resolved?

step 14

If there was a partial resolution, what did you do next?

step 15

Were there any cognitive shifts?

step 16

What techniques were used (use the skills appropriate to the client session – which can vary session by session).

Certification for Emotional Freedom Technique

Once you become a certified EFT Advanced Practitioner, you are qualified to work with clients on much deeper and sensitive issues such as wounded inner child.

The best way to sharpen your skills to help such clients is to do the Inner Child Matrix (ICM) Programme.  This programme will equip you with all the necessary skills and set you up for success.

Once you have submitted your case studies in accordance with the guidelines and certification process, you may have a desire to broaden your horizons and share EFT Tapping with groups of people.

To do so, you need to acquire the accreditation of EFT Facilitator. Let’s dive into what that is and what your next steps should be.

Suppose you wish to introduce EFT Tapping to corporate organisations or multi-national companies in order to help them deal with workplace stress.

The only roadblock you might face in your pursuit would be not having the necessary certification or accreditation to execute your plans.

You might have excellent public speaking and presentation skills, but sharing a technique like EFT requires you to be mindful of a few intricacies. This is because the EFT technique can deeply impact people’s psychology and, eventually, lives.

Basically, an EFT Facilitator is someone who can give talks of about three hours on EFT to groups of people. The format of the mini seminar, talk, or event must be in the spirit of:

  • Personal development
  • Borrowing benefits
  • Tapping on Self
  • Self-help tapping

The talk should not be about:

  • Training to become a practitioner
  • Get attendees to give & receive sessions

Benefits of being an EFT Facilitator:

An EFT Facilitator gets to interact with audiences and thus, has a wider field of potential clients. The facilitator can-

  • Conduct EFT sessions to groups of people
  • Earn money by having paying seminar attendees
  • Get on the track to become an EFT presenter and share EFT themed workshops and seminars
  • Increase their own client base, earnings and fee-paying clients

Nevertheless, becoming an EFT Facilitator does not make one credible enough to train other people in EFT Tapping. So, in that case, what would be the next step?

EFT Training

Your next step in the game would be to become a certified EFT Trainer or Coach.

What are the perks of being an EFT Trainer or Coach?

  • As a certified EFT Trainer or Coach you get to run your own seminars.
  • You can work as a Professional Life Coach or Corporate and Business Coach.
  • You will get the opportunity to impact hundreds of lives and make a difference.
  • You can get higher paying clients.
  • You can help others get faster results.

EFT Trainer’s Training aims at familiarising you with a number of concepts. The training helps you

  • Understand the psychology of your audience and have a rapport in seconds
  • Coach others to gain clarity on what they want in life, relationships, finances, career, etc., and make it happen
  • Get on someone’s wavelength fast and influence for win-win situation
  • Put the past behind and start living in the present
  • Enable deep relaxation
  • Experience peace of mind and infinite calm
  • Harness the power of the mind for success

By becoming a professional life, corporate and executive coach, you get facilitate training programs in the following skills:

  • NLP Diploma & Practitioner – With UK based international organization ANLP
  • Hypnotherapy Practitioner
  • Breakthrough Coach
  • Timeline Technology

By the end of the EFT Trainer’s Training, you are awarded certification that allows you to practice as a trainer, motivational speaker, anchor, coach or consultant.
