How To Use EFT Tapping On Physical Pain?

EFT Tapping On Physical Pain

EFT Tapping For Physical Pain

We often associate physical pain with the body. While it’s true that pain could be a symptom of something wrong with your body, it’s not always the case. Sometimes, it’s the mental stress, emotions, or unresolved trauma that could be manifesting in the form of pain.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a proven method to relieve physical pain and discomfort. It targets the root of your pain and provides significant lasting benefits.

Physical Pain! It is such a common physical problem, isn't it? All of us have suffered from some type of pain, whether it was due to an injury or another ailment. As much as we’d like to avoid or deny the existence of it, we can’t help but succumb to this unpleasant, uncomfortable, and distressing feeling that tells us that something is wrong (1).

It could be a steady, throbbing, stabbing, aching, or pinching pain which can be described as a prick, tingle, or even a sting. It may be sharp and dull or on and off, but whatever the type, it’s wearying and saps our energy.

It is inconvenient and affects both our personal and professional lives. Persistent pain often disrupts one’s peace of mind and may cause frustration and exhaustion.

Some of us suffer from mild discomforts like headaches, cramps or stomach aches, while some undergo chronic pain due to terminal illnesses, fractures, accidents, etc.

Different individuals go through different types of pain. Nonetheless, all of it seems debilitating to the one experiencing it. It cripples us and doesn’t make us feel good about ourselves.

"Pain is such an uncomfortable feeling that even a tiny amount of it is enough to ruin your enjoyment"

Physical pain may be continuous, may start and stop frequently, or it may occur only under some conditions. It may occur suddenly and last for a short period of time. Or it may develop gradually and last over several months or years.

Pain may be specific to a particular part of the body, or it may be generalised, such as the overall body aches associated with the flu.

There are several types of pain. Identifying the type of pain you’re experiencing is useful in developing the treatment plan.

The different types of physical pain are listed below: (2)

  • Acute Pain
  • Chronic Pain
  • Nociceptive Pain
  • Neuropathic Pain
  • Functional Pain

Acute Pain develops suddenly and lasts for a short period of time, typically for 3 to 6 months. The cause is often an injury, illness, or medical procedure.

This pain tends to be sharp and severe but goes way within a few days, weeks or months, depending on the cause and intensity of pain.

Chronic Pain is a persistent pain that lasts for a long period of time (several months or years), or frequently comes and goes for many years.

Chronic illnesses like cancer and arthritis can cause this type of pain. In some cases, if a person has suffered a serious injury, the pain can continue even after the injury has healed

Nociceptive Pain is a severe, throbbing pain caused by damage in the tissues. Injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns or fractures may cause this type of pain.

It may also result from certain illnesses that cause tissue inflammation and damage, such as arthritis and osteoporosis. This pain can be acute or chronic, depending on the underlying cause.

Neuropathic Pain is caused as a result of nerve damage. For example, you may experience neuropathic pain because of certain health conditions such as diabetes, slipped disk, cancer, or multiple sclerosis.

This pain may lead to stabbing or prickling sensations and can also make you hypersensitive to extreme hot and cold temperatures, touch, and movement.

Functional Pain is a type of chronic pain that develops even when there is no past injury or apparent body damage. Chronic cardiac chest pain and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are some examples of functional pain syndrome.

Along with injuries and illnesses, there may be other factors like improper posture, poor nutrition, lack of physical activity, or lack of sleep that may be the cause of physical pain.

Taking care of these things on a daily basis would help to prevent potential functional pain.

Headache and Medication

When we suffer from any type of physical pain, what do we usually do?

Well, most of us try to get rid of the pain by applying ointments, popping pain killers, and consulting various doctors and physicians.

But have you ever had an experience where even after doing everything in your control, the pain just doesn't go away? And even if it does, it just keeps coming back?

Well, the reason is that instead of solving the problem at its root, we try to solve it at the surface level, and hence we end up getting temporary results.

So what is this root cause? You would be surprised to know that it is nothing but your emotions.

When you go through some negative or traumatic experiences in your life, (however small or big they are), they are stored as a distressing memory.

These distressing memories create a disruption in the flow of energy in the body, and as a result, unresolved negative emotions are formed.

When these unresolved emotions interfere with the flow of energy in the body, it causes this annoying discomfort.

When emotions are suppressed over a long period of time, they start accumulating in the body and manifest symptoms in the form of pain. (3)

Every painful memory that we have, every emotion of anger or resentment that we hold onto, creates a tense vibration. When we hold onto that negativity, it actually influences our physical bodies.

EFT Tapping For physical pain

Our bodies store traumatic memories, and that's why even if you cannot recall exactly what happened, you still feel constricted, frozen, dissociated, anxious, or numb.

The physical pain is real, but the psychological processes amplify and perpetuate it due to the presence of unresolved negative emotions, which may be the result of experiences that happened long ago or a more recent emotional turmoil.

Let us understand this in detail. On a physiological level, there are mainly two mechanisms involved in chronic pain.

First, there's spasm and chronic tension in the muscles. As these muscles tense up, there is a drop in blood supply and oxygen levels in the muscle tissue, leaving us in a great deal of pain.

The second mechanism involves the hypersensitivity of the nerves which causes chronic pain. Our body releases stress hormones when we are in a chronic flight-or-fight state and those hormones have a significant influence in sensitising the nerves.

When the nerves become too sensitive, every little thing causes more hurt than usual. The way that we think and feel about our pain also influences the sensitisation of nerves. If we are anxious about our pain, it tends to psycho-perpetuate because general anxiety leads to the release of more stress hormones.

But the good news is that we all have an innate ability to heal, even from chronic pain.

However, according to the work of the renowned American biologist and author, Dr Bruce Lipton, when the body is in a stressed state, the cells go into protection-survival mode. This means that the process of healing slows down when we are stressed.

The cells return to healing and rejuvenation mode, only when the body comes out of that stress state, which is when lasting pain relief becomes possible. (4)

How To Self-Heal & Become An EFT Practitioner

Discover how EFT Tapping can help you to self-heal or to become professionally qualified as a Certified EFT Practitioner. Emotional Freedom Techniques (Tapping) is clinically proven to lower stress, tension, anxiety, past trauma to enable health, happiness and vitality.

While all of our physical pain problems can be solved or aided by the usage of various medically prescribed drugs and therapy, we must also keep in mind that those methods may only provide temporary relief, and turn out to be harmful to us in the long run.

In order to avoid all of this, and to address the issue from its root cause, the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) happens to be a very powerful alternative healing therapy to heal any sort of physical or mental pain that people usually experience.

EFT Tapping is highly effective in relieving chronic pain because it helps people to release the unresolved negative emotions that are keeping the body in a stressed state.

By tapping to lift the negative emotional charge from specific events and other past and current issues, the brain learns that it is safe to relax tense muscles and lessen nerve sensitivity. That's when the body can heal itself. (4)

EFT targets what is often the true source of your pain; your emotions, your stress, your traumas. Once you release those, your body begins to heal itself naturally.

Research also shows that EFT has managed to produce real, long-lasting effects along with improvements that result in eliminations of conditions or ailments that psychotherapy, medication or even hospital treatments failed to help individuals deal with.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (tapping) is clinically proven to lower stress, tension, anxiety, past-trauma to enable health, happiness and vitality.

A pilot study was conducted to assess the effects of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) on reducing pain in adults with chronic pain. In this study, 50 adults with chronic pain participated in a 3-day workshop to learn how to use EFT.

Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) and the Multidimensional Pain Inventory (MPI) were used to measure pain immediately before and after treatment and at 1-month and 6-month follow-ups.

Significant reductions were found on each of the factors of PCS. On the MPI, significant improvements were marked in pain severity, interference, life control, affective distress, and dysfunctional composite.

At 6-month follow-up, reductions were maintained on the PCS but only on one factor for the MPI.

Findings suggest that EFT provides immediate relief by reducing the severity of pain while also improving participants’ ability to live with their pain.

Although reductions in pain severity were observed at 1-month follow-up but not sustained in the long-term, participants continued to report an improved sense of control and ability to cope with their chronic pain (5).

Headaches and EFT Tapping

Yet another study was conducted to examine if self-administered Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) led to reduced pain perception, increased acceptance, coping ability and health-related quality of life in people suffering from fibromyalgia.

86 women, who were on sick leave for at least 3 months, were randomly assigned to a treatment group or a waiting list group. An eight-week EFT treatment program was administered online.

Significant improvements were observed in the treatment group as compared to the waiting list group for variables such as pain, anxiety, depression, vitality, social function, mental health, performance problems, and stress symptoms. (6)

One of our participants, Dr Rajesh CM healed his back pain completely after attending EFT training and now routinely helps his patients heal from body pain with results in only a single sitting.

Here's what he has to say: "I healed my back pain in 17 minutes and now help others. After attending EFT Training with Vitality Living College I became even more powerful and effective in my private practice.

Back Pain and EFT Tapping

I now have 5 to 6 patients daily and every patient is satisfied through EFT Tapping.

"For any kind of pain, for example in the knee, back or head I am getting good results. The best part is, in a single sitting my patients get more than 70% and sometimes 100% relief. In my own case before attending EFT Training I used to have severe back pain and after attending the EFT Training session it has gone completely.

"After 28 years of pain, I felt set free Corporate Trainer and Consultant Sreekumar Rajagoplan cut through years of pain with EFT and liberated himself from his obstacles. I’ve never attended a training session where the trainer was able to cut through layers so quickly and reach my real pain issue and the underlying cause in the way she did.

"On both Day 1 and Day 3, I had cathartic breakthroughs which helped me relieve the problems I had been carrying for the past 28 years. She helped me connect the dots in a non-linear way to help me understand where the root cause lay in my recurring problems.

"Most of us just try and apply the linear root-cause analysis which is so lame and limited. Not Rangana. Her intuition helped her cut right through the layers and save so much time to help us achieve breakthroughs

"I was suffering from heel pain for about 8 months. It was very difficult for me to walk or get up on my feet after I woke up or sat down for too long. I could not walk barefoot and it hurt as if it was a major wound.

"I decided to try out Emotional Freedom Techniques on my heel and it got cured in just two sessions of one hour each. I was also awed by the results and developed profound faith in EFT after this miracle took place. EFT allowed me to become aware of my feelings and emotions once I learnt how to practice it."

Relief from pain with Emotional Freedom Techniques

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT): EFT Tapping for healing physical Pain.

Step 1:

First use EFT tapping on what it feels like to feel the pain

Explore the physical sensations in the body associated with the pain and use the physical tension tapping process to reduce the sensations.

Then use the EFT Tapping Points Process taught in detail during EFT Practitioner Training Online.

To get started, begin by investigating the physical nature of pain.

Connect with the pain and notice where you feel it in the body. Then use the EFT Tapping for Physical Tension taught in detail during the EFT Practitioner Training to clear the surface feelings and feel calmer.

Briefly, you can begin by asking yourself the following questions to explore further:

  • Where in the body do you experience the pain?
  • What is the colour, texture, size, shape of the pain in the body?
  • What are the sensations like? For example rough or smooth

Then measure the level of pain by asking:

"What number is the pain at, where 10 is really high and 1 is not high at all." Just go with whatever comes up spontaneously, without thinking too much about it.

Begin by Tapping on the Karate Chop or Side of the Hand EFT Tapping Points:

"Even though I feel the pain and I feel it in my [part of the body where there is pain] and its at a number 6 and it's red in colour and it feels rough, I deeply and completely love and accept myself." (Repeat 3 times).

Then tap on the face and upper body EFT Tapping Points using these phrases:

  • Eyebrow: This pain...
  • side Of the Eye: So painful...
  • Under the eye: Pain in my chest..
  • Under the nose: It's a red colour...
  • Chin: At a number 6...
  • Collarbone: So rough...
  • Under the arm: This pain...
  • Thumb: I feel it in my chest...
  • Index Finger: So painful...
  • Middle Finger: Really painful...
  • Little Finger: The colour red...

Close the sequence by coming back to the EFT Karate Chop tapping points and repeat once:

"Even though I feel pain and I feel it in my chest and it's at a number 6 and it's red in colour and it feels rough, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."

Take a gentle breath in, then let it out and take a sip of water.

At the end of the EFT Tapping , you can ask yourself the following questions:

  • What number is the pain at now?
  • What happened?
  • How does it make you feel?

You can repeat this process by going back to Step 1 if you feel like the number could come down a little more.

Step 2:

Then discover past experiences of feeling pain and clear them

Explore memories related to the physical tension and use the Tell the Story & the Movie Technique to clear it.

To uncover the memories linked to the symptoms of oedema and fibromyalgia, you can ask questions like:

  • When have you felt these sensations before?
  • What do these sensations remind you of?
  • When did the sensations start? What happened?
  • Was there ever a time when you did not experience these symptoms?
  • What can trigger and bring on the symptoms?

Identify past events linked to the feeling of this pain and resolve it with the help of tapping therapy.

You can ask the following questions:

  • When have you felt the pain before?
  • What happens to trigger the pain?
  • Who or what triggers the feeling of pain?

These questions will identify your past experiences associated with the pain.

Step 3:

Explore any limiting beliefs that prevented you from being pain-free

Limiting beliefs are thoughts that can be conscious or unconscious and can end up becoming responsible for self-sabotage, procrastination and low self-esteem, in an individual.

For pain, first uncover the limiting beliefs which can either be at the surface level or emerging from a deeper root cause, which are often the repressed memories. Then replace the negative beliefs with more empowering ones. For example,

  •  “Something bad is going to happen” to “Everything is going to be OK"
  • "It not safe" to "I am safe now"

Step 4:

Close with positive EFT Tapping fpain-freeor healing pain:

Examples of a positive tapping sequence might be:

  • “Even though I felt painful, now, I am open to feeling pain free.”
  • “Even though I was living with this pain for many months, now, I open myself to the possibility of being pain-free."

EFT tapping and repeating a few sentences does not mean that you are trying to convince yourself and believe in false affirmations.

It just means that you’re allowing yourself to confront and deal with feelings of pain and pessimism, by accepting and validating them.In simple words, EFT allows your body’s energy to tune itself into a more positive flow that ends up lasting for a really long time.

When individuals decide to resort to the Emotional Freedom Technique, they not only get rid of their pain, but also look at life in a more positive way, which provides them with the strength to deal with any other mental or physical distress that comes their way.

In conclusion, EFT is a very powerful and effective tool for relieving any kind of physical or mental pain and discomfort. This technique has also proven to be effective when it comes to chronic pain.

EFT has provided relief to thousands of people who were suffering for years. If you or someone you know is experiencing pain and unable to heal from it, EFT Tapping might be the solution you’re looking for.
