How To Cope With Workplace Stress With EFT Tapping

Eliminate Workplace Stress With EFT Tapping

In this article, you will learn about what workplace stress is, coping mechanisms for workplace stress and how to overcome it with the help of the EFT Tapping Method. This therapy has been clinically proven to help people let go of intense stressful feelings.

A couple of years ago, I worked at the Human Resources department and was really interested in my job. It gave me a sense of purpose and I absolutely loved working there. However, after some months, my colleague resigned and I was the only one handling everything while my boss just kept piling work on my desk; even though I liked my job, I just couldn't handle the pressure that came along with it.

Eventually, I felt exhausted and drained, since I had no time for myself or my family anymore. I started procrastinating and was not able to complete my tasks; it got to a point where I began taking leaves more often than I usually would. This is when I realised that the stress and the need to do well at my job, got to me so much that I was experiencing burnouts regularly.

I ended up quitting, since it was taking a toll on my mental and physical health. Had I received the help I required to overcome or let go of my stress, I probably would not have gone through so much of exhaustion and frustration. Luckily, I soon found an alternative therapeutic method that I started using to help me through workplace stress, and it has been extremely helpful to me ever since.

My point is, workplace stress is quite common and usually emerges due to unexpected higher demands and our inability to meet them, but knowing when it gets too much and working on it immediately is going to be helpful, since it would help to avoid further damage.

"It's not the stress that kills us, It's our reaction to it."

Alternative therapeutic techniques are very helpful when it comes to work-related stress. When I joined another organization, these techniques not only helped heal the stress I was facing, but they also gave me a method to have a healthy work-life balance as well as a serene sense of calm and peace.

What is it that causes so much of workplace stress?

Stress at work can happen due to a variety of different reasons and according to a survey conducted in 2017 the most important are the following (3):

  • Higher than manageable work-load –An employee will feel stressed if the amount of work they have to complete is over-whelming versus manageable
  • A feeling of being unsupported – An employee feels un-supported if they are under-valued, unfairly treated or their contribution un-rewarded.
  • Changes at the work – Unexpected changes at work and an inability to cope with it can cause stress.
  • Bullying, violence, and threats – Understandably experiencing any form of abuse is unacceptable and causes heightened levels of stress in some cases leading to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Feeling uncertain about your role–Employees will feel anxious at work if they do not know where their role fits into the workplace.

Stress does not always have to be a bad thing. Sometimes, it helps people to get better at their task and feel more motivated to get their work done effectively and efficiently. However, too much of it is bad for us. Prolonged stress is extremely harmful - it would start with burnouts and end up with you having serious mental health problems.

Have you ever felt like you just can't do it anymore? Like your job is so frustrating that you feel like giving up and taking a break? Maybe your boss is getting on your nerves and you have absolutely no motivation to touch the pile of work you have?

This intense mental, physical and emotional exhaustion that you face in the middle of your job, is known as a Burnout. It takes place when you feel so exhausted and frustrated that you are not able to meet your deadlines, you feel emotionally drained and don't have the ability to continue any further.

Burnouts make you feel helpless and the work you once loved doing, just does not seem appealing anymore. This feeling often intensifies to a point where your professional, personal and family life also get affected in the process. Since long-term effects of burnouts can be harmful to your mental and/or physical heath, it is necessary to deal with this as soon as you realise it is happening.

Signs And Symptoms Of Burnouts

  • Loss of appetite
  • Lowered immunity
  • Detachment and isolation
  • Feelings of hopeless and helplessness
  • Self-esteem problems
  • Substance use/abuse
  • Usage of displacement or projection as coping mechanisms
  • Procrastinating

Struggling with burnouts is quite common and nothing to worry about, as long as you are mindful and take steps to overcome it. There are so many days where you'll just ask yourself, "is this job even worth it?" and if you conclude that it really isn't, consider looking out for another job that would make you feel happy and satisfied; or consider taking a break and giving yourself the much needed "me time."

Some of the solutions to help you cope better with stress at the workplace are to be able to:

Prioritise your work-load and develop an ability to say “No

You need to keep in mind that it is not necessary for you to take up all the work on your shoulders. If it gets too much, you have the right to politely refuse.

Initiate a conversation with your manager to resolve matters

Communication with your superiors about how your work is going and what needs to improve, will avoid unnecessary conflicts and stress.

Build a relationship with your coworkers

Some days may get too overwhelming; in order to feel supported and motivated, building a strong bond with your coworkers is always essential.

Be mindful of your activities

When stress arises, people usually tend to focus on the past - what happened, how it happened, why you're facing this situation and start overthinking. However, it is necessary to pay attention to the task at hand and move on. Dwelling on something that has already happened, will worsen your stress, than reduce it.

Get clear on what you want at work

Sometimes, individuals tend to have so things on their mind, that all of it just becomes a bundle of confusion; hence, being clear on what you want to do and formulating a schedule regarding your priorities for the day, will help to minimise the stress and confusion.

Stand up to any abuse and get professional help as required

When a colleague is arrogant and/or superior to you, there may be times when they bully you into doing their work or scare you. The moment you realise this is happening, it is important to either stand up to this person or talk to your boss/manager about it, orals your life at work will be nothing but stressful and upsetting.

Find a method that will help lower your stress level:

Since you cannot work out or do anything much at your workplace to reduce stress, you could consider the following methods:

  • Listen to music for a while
  • Close your eyes and focus on your breathing
  • Take a short break
  • Eat a chocolate or food that you like
  • Go out for a while for a walk and fresh air
