What is PCOS?

How to identify PCOS?

  • Absence of ovulation, leading to irregular menstrual periods or no periods at all
  • High levels of androgens (male hormones) or signs of high androgens, such as facing excess body or facial hair
  • Cysts (fluid-filled sacs) on one or both ovaries—"polycystic" literally means "having many cysts" (1)

It is important to note that many women with PCOS don’t have cysts on their ovaries and hence, judging whether you have PCOS based on only cysts stands insignificant.

If you ask me most common symptoms of PCOS, speaking from experience, they are irregular menstruation cycles and sudden weight gain.

When you have higher-than-normal levels of androgens, ovulation does not occur regularly. Due to this, women end up facing fluid-filled cysts within ovaries beside scalp hair loss and excessive acne.

Furthermore, women with insulin problems are prone to PCOS. The reason being higher level of insulin leads to excessive production of androgens thus leading your body to the loop of PCOS.

Identifying PCOS

Effect of PCOS on Mental / Physical health  

Do you know PCOS tend to run in families?

Women with sister and/or mother having records of PCOS are at higher risk. Researchers suggest PCOS is likely a combined result of genetic and environment factors.

  • Even though they might not approve of me, I choose to treat myself with love.

If you are a patient yourself, or healing a client, use the following steps:

Step 1:

First Use EFT Tapping On What It Feels Like To Feel The Pain.

Explore the physical sensations in the body associated with PCOS and use the physical tension tapping process to reduce the sensations.

Then use the EFT Tapping Points Process taught in detail during EFT Practitioner Training Online.

1.

To get started, begin by investigating the physical nature of PCOS disease. 

Connect with the symptoms of PCOS and notice where you feel it in the body.

Ask yourself the following questions and write them down if you want:

  • How does it feel to have PCOS?
  • What makes me anxious about PCOS?
  • What negative beliefs does PCOS trigger in you?
  • If you were to no longer get anxious or worries about PCOS, what space would open up in your life for the better?

Now, bring into your awareness, a time when you felt affected by PCOS mentally. Briefly, you can also ask yourself the following questions to explore further:

  • What symptoms do you experience?
  • Where in the body do you experience the symptoms?
  • What is the colour, texture, size, shape of the symptoms in the body?
  •  What are the sensations like? For example, rough or smooth.

2.

Measure the level of PCOS symptoms by asking:  

Now measure the level of symptoms caused by PCOS by asking:

"What number are the symptoms at, where 10 is really high and 1 is not high at all." Just go with whatever comes up spontaneously, without thinking too much about it.

3.

Begin by Tapping on the Karate Chop or Side of the Hand EFT Tapping Points: 

“Even though I feel anxious about [name the symptoms you are experiencing, eg. weight gain, hairfall etc.] and I can feel it in my [name the part of body where you are experiencing it] and it’s at a number [mention the number at which symptom is at, say 6] and it makes me feel I am not meeting perfect body standard, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

Repeat this 3 times.

Start by Tapping on the facial, Finger and upper body EFT Tapping Points using these phrases:

  • Eyebrow: This (name of the symptom)...
  • Side of the Eye: So painful...
  • Under The Eye: Pain in my (part of the body)...
  • Under The Nose: It's a red colour...
  • Chin: At a number 6...
  • Collarbone: So rough...
  • Under the arm: This (name of the symptom)...
  • Thumb: I feel it in my (part of the body)...
  • Index Finger: So painful...
  • Middle Finger: Really painful...
  • Little Finger: The colour (name the colour, say red)..

5.

Close the sequence by coming back to the EFT Karate Chop Tapping Points and repeat once:

“Even though I feel anxious about [name the symptoms you are experiencing, eg. weight gain, hairfall etc.] and I can feel it in my [name the part of body where you are experiencing it] and it’s at a number [mention the number at which symptom is at, say 6] and it makes me feel I am not meeting perfect body standard, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

6.

Relax:

Take a gentle breath in and out and take a sip of water.

7.

Test:

At the end of the EFT Tapping , you can ask yourself the following questions:

  • What number are the symptoms are at now?
  • What happens when you say PCOS now?
  • How does it make you feel?
  • How does it feel to have PCOS?

If it has reduced to a level, you feel happy with, you can stop. Or you can repeat this process by going back to Step 1 if you feel like the number could come down a little more.

Step 2:

Discover Past Experiences Of Feeling Symptoms And Clear Them 

Explore memories related to the physical tension.

To reveal the memories linked to feeling it, you can ask questions like:

  • When have you felt these symptoms before?
  • What do these symptoms remind you of?
  • When did the symptoms start? What happened?
  • Was there ever a time when you did not experience these symptoms?
  • What can trigger and bring on the symptoms?

Identify past events linked to the feeling of these symptoms and resolve it with the help of tapping therapy.

You can ask the following questions:

  • When have you felt the symptoms before?
  • What happens to trigger the symptoms?
  • Who or what triggers the feeling of symptoms?

These questions will identify your past experiences associated with the symptoms of PCOS.

Step 3:

Explore Any Limiting Beliefs That Prevented You From Being free from Symptoms of PCOS

Limiting beliefs are thoughts that can be conscious or unconscious and can end up becoming responsible for self-sabotage, procrastination and low self-esteem, in an individual.

Try to think of the limiting beliefs you may be having. Then shift them negative to positive.

As one of the main causes of mental tension in PCOS is the inability to truly express yourself, think about any past memories and present situations in your life where you want to say or do something different but you can't.

What is it that is stopping you from speaking up? What is it that is not allowing you to follow your heart?

As you uncover them, follow the above-mentioned steps of tapping for these emotions.

For example, "Even though I am not able to (say the thing you are unable to express or tell), and I feel (state how you feel because of that), I deeply and completely accept and love myself."  

Follow the tapping sequence after this.

Step 4:

Close With Positive EFT Tapping For PCOS:

Examples of a positive tapping sequence might be:

  • “Even though I have PCOS issue, now, I am open to feeling healthy and disease-free.”
  • “Even though I was living with this disease for many years/months, now, I open myself to the possibility of being free from diseases.
  • “Even though all I ever wanted was their approval, I love and accept myself and I have decided to love and accept me regardless of how they see me.”
  • “Even though I am not meeting perfect body standard, I am still lovable.”
