Research also shows that lack of sleep can make this pain worse, so it’s like being in a loop. Pain, depression, unhappiness and anxiety can all be the reason for lack of sleep, for people suffering from this condition.

It is very sad to see how patients of fibromyalgia suffer, and how misunderstood they must be feeling.

People around them often get impatient or irritated with them, as they don't look ill on the outside, and the debilitating lack of energy that they experience is often perceived as lethargy or lack of willpower. 


Fibromyalgia is a chronic rheumatic condition that causes widespread pain throughout the body, including tender points where it is the worst. It is often accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues.

  • It also causes mental distress
  • It is a condition that is triggered by a stressful event which could be a physical stress, an accident or injury, or an emotional (psychological) stress. 
  • If you have been involved in an accident or have gone through severe emotional trauma, you can be very vulnerable to Fibromyalgia; this condition also has links to post-traumatic stress.

Fibromyalgia happens to increase the body’s sensitivity, which means you could feel intense pain even from a small cut or pressure. Sleep irregularities are very common in people who have Fibromyalgia.

You might even experience headaches, feelings of distress, restlessness, and difficulty focusing or concentrating on anything, you may also struggle with your memory, fatigue, and tiredness.

You can push your pain all the way down in your soul and pretend that it does not exist, but somehow, some way, one day it is going to push its way to the surface and demand that you face it.

Some common symptoms of Fibromyalgia include:

According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), around 5 million adults aged 18 years or over in the United States experience Fibromyalgia, and 80 to 90 percent of Fibromyalgia patients are women.

  • Exercise – most of the time, people don’t feel like exercising due to the increased amount of weakness and pain they feel, but staying active is extremely important when one suffers from this condition, since it will help your body to stay away from other health problems. This will also help you increase your flexibility, stamina, fitness and will help you get proper sleep too. Yoga is a great tool to help in dealing with the pain. Doing light yoga flow under proper guidance can surely benefit. 
  • Meditation - Body scan and mindfulness meditations cannot be recommended enough. By paying non-judgmental attention to the sensations in your entire body, including pain, you learn to be compassionate and accept your pain and yourself.

Most physical ailments have an emotional component. Even if your illness was not caused by emotions, you cannot help but become emotionally involved with any illness that you encounter.

EFT Tapping addresses this emotional dimension of physical illness, and more often than you might expect, it can act as a catalyst in helping to overcome the physical problem.  

According to Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, when you go through some negative or traumatic experiences in your life, (however small or big they are) they are stored as a distressing memory.

Let me help you understand this better with the help of a real example: 

A lady named Barbara who was in her late 50s, and suffering from fibromyalgia for 6 years, went to an EFT Practitioner. The practitioner decided to skip working on the fibromyalgia pain and go for one of her core issues.  

According to Barbara, whatever she did was never good enough for her mother, even till the present day. After exploring deeper, Barbara recovered a childhood memory when she was just 5 years old. 

They lived in the countryside and had very few neighbours. So, Barbara did not have any friends that came to her house, and her collection of teddy bears were her only company to play with. 

One day, a woman came to visit her mother along with her little daughter. Since, Barbara never had any friends come over, the concept of sharing toys was alien to her, and she refused to share her teddy bears with the girl. 

After they left, Barbara's mother told her that she had taken all her teddy bears and burned them. For Barbara, her mother had just killed her only friends.

This had to be extremely distressing for a 5-year old. Then after letting Barbara suffer for some time, her mother told her that she had not burned her teddies and hoped that she had learned her lesson. 

The practitioner addressed all the aspects of this event, explored few other mother related issues, and then ended the session. During the entire session, the practitioner did not work on the fibromyalgia pain even once. 

About a week later, Barbara called the practitioner to inform that her pain has gone, she was able to sleep well, and all the other symptoms were in control. She wanted to know if all this was normal! 

Sometimes, the issue can be solved in a single session, or sometimes in a few sessions, depending on the client and the issue. 

EFT Tapping For Fibromyalgia


Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT): EFT Tapping for healing Fibromyalgia Pain.

Step 1:

First Use EFT Tapping On What It Feels Like To Feel The Pain

Explore the physical sensations in the body associated with the pain and use the physical tension tapping process to reduce the sensations.

Then use the EFT Tapping Points Process taught in detail during EFT Practitioner Training Online. 


To get started, begin by investigating the physical nature of pain. 

Connect with the pain and notice where you feel it in the body. Then use the EFT Tapping for Physical Tension taught in detail during the EFT Practitioner Training to clear the surface feelings and feel calmer. 

Briefly, you can begin by asking yourself the following questions to explore further:

  • Where in the body do you experience the pain?
  • What is the colour, texture, size, and shape of the pain in the body?
  • What are the sensations like? For example rough or smooth?


Then measure the level of pain by asking: 

"What number is the pain at, where 10 is really high and 1 is not high at all." Just go with whatever comes up spontaneously, without thinking too much about it. 


Begin by Tapping on the Karate Chop or Side of the Hand EFT Tapping Points: 

"Even though I feel the pain and I feel it in my [part of the body where there is pain] and it's at a number 6 and it's red in colour and it feels rough, I deeply and completely love and accept myself." (Repeat 3 times).


Then Tap on the facial and upper body EFT Tapping Points using these phrases:

  • Eyebrow: This pain...
  • side Of the Eye: So painful...
  • Under the eye: Pain in my chest..
  • Under the nose: It's a red colour...
  • Chin: At a number 6...
  • Collarbone: So rough...
  • Under the arm: This pain...
  • Thumb: I feel it in my chest...
  • Index Finger: So painful...
  • Middle Finger: Really painful...
  • Little Finger: The colour red...


Close the sequence by coming back to the EFT Karate Chop Tapping Points and repeat once: 

"Even though I feel painful and I feel it in my chest and it's at a number 6 and it's red in colour and it feels rough, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."



Take a gentle breath in and out, and take a sip of water.



At the end of the EFT Tapping , you can ask yourself the following questions:

  • What number is the pain at now?
  • What happened?
  • How does it make you feel?

You can repeat this process by going back to Step 1, if you feel like the number could come down a little more.

Step 2:

Then Discover Past Experiences Of Feeling painful And Clear Them 

Explore memories related to the physical tension and use the 'Tell the Story' & the 'Movie Technique' to clear it. 

To uncover the memories linked to the symptoms of edema and fibromyalgia, you can ask questions like:

  • When have you felt these sensations before?
  • What do these sensations remind you of?
  • When did the sensations start? What happened?
  • Was there ever a time when you did not experience these symptoms?
  • What can trigger and bring on the symptoms?

Identify past events linked to the feeling of this pain and resolve it with the help of tapping therapy.

You can ask the following questions:

  • When have you felt the pain before?
  • What happens to trigger the pain?
  • Who or what triggers the feeling of pain?

These questions will identify your past experiences associated with the pain. 

Step 3:

Explore Any Limiting Beliefs That Prevented You From Being pain-free

Limiting beliefs are thoughts that can be conscious or unconscious, and can end up becoming responsible for self-sabotage, procrastination and low self-esteem, in an individual.

For pain, first uncover the limiting beliefs which can either be at the surface level, or associated with the deeper root memories. Then shift them from stressful to empowering. For example, 

  •  “Something bad is going to happen” to “Everything is going to be OK"
  • "I am not safe" to "I am safe now"

Step 4:

Close With Positive EFT Tapping For healing pain:

Examples of a positive tapping sequence might be:

  • “Even though I felt painful, now, I am open to feeling pain free.”
  • “Even though I was living with this pain for many months, now I  open myself to the possibility of being pain free."

One of our participants, Sejal Mehta, an ace trainer and therapist, had an experience that healed her 7- 8 month long acute pain that she was going through, caused by oedema and fibromyalgia, in just a day. 

This seemed possible for her only because of the Emotional Freedom Techniques Tapping.

She explained with great enthusiasm, “The last 2 days of attending EFT Tapping has brought a huge physiological, temperamental, and attitudinal change in my life. I have become not only sympathetic, but more empathetic towards everyone. For the last 7-8 months, I was suffering from oedema and fibromyalgia which, in simple words, can be explained as a debilitating pain that can take years to heal. But the pain disappeared miraculously after attending only 2 days of EFT training. That night, I finally managed to sleep peacefully after months of painful nights.”

A research study was conducted to examine if self-administered EFT Tapping led to reduced pain, increased acceptance & coping ability and better health-related quality of life in individuals suffering from fibromyalgia. 

86 women who had fibromyalgia and were on sick leave for at least 3 months, were randomly assigned to a treatment group or a waiting list group. An 8-week EFT Tapping treatment program was administered via the Internet.

Upon completion of the program, significant improvements were observed in the treatment group as compared to the waiting list group for issues such as pain, anxiety, depression, social function, mental health, performance problems involving work or other activities due to physical as well as emotional reasons, and stress symptoms (5).


No matter what medical condition it is, always encourage your client to get a proper medical diagnosis from a professional, since you will be working with them only through emotions. Therefore encourage each client to seek the help that they need, depending on their level of comfort.


In conclusion, every physical pain or discomfort that we experience daily is the result of our emotional health. Emotions get accumulated in the physical body and send us messages through pain or discomfort. The moment that we start paying attention to, and start work on our emotional health, it will get easier to deal with and heal our physical discomforts and other health problems.
Dig deeper into your sense of self and figure out why things are happening. You’ll feel better and will recognize the problems you are facing to get the help that you need. EFT Tapping also makes us more aware of emotions that are building within ourselves continuously, with whatever we are facing in our life.

Fibromyalgia seems to be very difficult to cure; it can be resolved with the help of Emotional Freedom Techniques. Since this technique is long lasting, simple, and works quickly and effectively, clients are satisfied with it.

P.S. It’s always recommended to think positively and focus on how to help yourself, instead of thinking about what caused your illness or why you have to go through it.
