Online Group Yoga Guidelines

We are really looking forward to connecting with you during the online yoga classes.

Here are some guidelines to get the best out of the Yoga classes:

  • Arrive on time: To log into the call a few minutes early, because the class will begin sharp on time and this way you will not miss out on anything.
  • Dress comfortably: Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that allows you to move freely. Avoid clothing that may be too tight or restrictive.
  • Stay hydrated: Drink water ½ an hour before or after the class to stay hydrated. However, try to avoid drinking water during the practice, as it can cause you discomfort during the practice.
  • Notify the instructor of any injuries: If you have any injuries, medical conditions, or physical limitations, inform the instructor before the class begins. This allows the instructor to offer appropriate modifications and ensure your safety.
  • Silence your devices: Turn off or silence your cell phone and other electronic devices before entering the practice space. The practice of yoga is a time for self-reflection and focus.
  • Practice non-judgement and compassion: Yoga is a personal journey, and everyone's body is different. Avoid comparing yourself to others in the class. Practice self-compassion and non-judgment toward your own abilities and limitations.
  • Listen to your body: Pay close attention to how your body feels during the practice. If a pose or movement causes pain or discomfort beyond normal stretching sensations, modify or skip it. Yoga is about self-care and self-awareness.
  • Breathe: The breath is a fundamental aspect of yoga. Focus on your breath, and try to synchronize your movements with it. Deep, mindful breathing can enhance your practice and reduce stress.
  • Stay present: Concentrate on the present moment during your practice. Let go of outside distractions and concerns. This is your time for self-care and introspection.
  • Express gratitude: After the class, take a moment to thank yourself for completing your practice.

By following these guidelines, you can contribute to a harmonious and respectful yoga community while enhancing your own practice. Remember that yoga is a journey, and each day may bring different experiences. Be patient and kind to yourself as you progress on your yoga path.

The Do's:

  • Empty your bladder and bowels: Prior to starting your yoga practice, it's advisable to ensure that your bladder and bowels are empty for your comfort.
  • Practice on an empty stomach: To derive the most benefits, it's best to complete your yoga practice on an empty stomach. Yoga can be practiced three to four hours after consuming solid food and at least half an hour after having liquids.
  • Use adequate support: Make use of a folded thick bedsheet or a yoga mat to provide cushioning and support during your yoga practice.
  • Menstrual cycle consideration: During the menstrual cycle there are certain exercises that are not recommended, so just let your yoga teacher know if you are menstruating so that they can explain the lighter versions of the exercises.

The Don'ts:

  • Avoid excessive force: While performing yoga exercises, refrain from using excessive force or pushing your body beyond its limits. Yoga is about harmony and balance, not force.
  • Practice when energised: Avoid practicing yoga when you are exhausted or unwell. Listen to your body and choose to rest or engage in relaxation techniques and pranayama if needed.
  • Post-session rest: Following your yoga session, it is advisable to wait for 20 to 30 minutes to allow your body to settle into a relaxed state before showering, drinking water, or eating.

These guidelines are designed to promote a safe and enjoyable yoga experience. Remember that yoga is a personal journey, and it's important to listen to your body and practice with mindfulness and self-care.
