What Mentoring Is Not

Mentoring, while incredibly valuable, is often misunderstood. To set clear expectations, it’s important to distinguish what mentoring is not:

1. Not therapy: Mentoring focuses on guidance, skill-building, and development, whereas therapy involves diagnosing, deep emotional healing, and treating mental health conditions.

2. Not training: Unlike structured training programs with predefined curriculum and certification, mentoring is personalised and conversational, adapting to your specific goals and challenges.

3. Not coaching: Unlike coaching, which involves goal-driven accountability with set outcomes, mentoring emphasises a relationship of support, encouragement, and shared wisdom.

4. Not a quick fix: Growth through mentoring requires commitment; mentoring offers long-term progress, not instant solutions.

5. Not one-sided: Mentoring is collaborative, with active participation from both mentor and mentee. It’s not about the mentor dictating or directing every step but about working together to explore potential and opportunities.

6. Not a substitute for expertise: Mentors provide experience-based guidance, not professional, technical, or specialised advice.

Mentoring complements other forms of learning and growth but doesn’t replace formal education or certification.

Mentoring Sessions for Practitioners-in-Training

Our mentoring program for practitioners-in-training is designed to provide comprehensive support, guidance, and feedback to help you develop your skills, gain confidence, and meet certification requirements. Below is an outline of what the mentoring sessions include:

1. Initial Consultation call: Begin with a Consultation call with your mentor to establish your goals and areas of focus. During this session, you will discuss your mentoring intake form, personal development plan, and EFT self-assessment.

You also have the option to share additional documents, such as:

  • EFT Training Proficiency Checklists
  • Supervision & Mentoring Records
  • Sharing your documents in advance of the session is encouraged to ensure a productive discussion.

2. Review of a one-to-one Consultation call: Participate in a review of a consultation call you’ve conducted, either with a client or through a recorded video.

  • The session length should be between 45 minutes and 1 hour.

3. Review of a one-to-one therapy session: Gain feedback on a one-to-one therapy session, either through a live client session or by reviewing a recorded video.

  • Keep the session length between 45 minutes and 1 hour.

4. Case discussion: Discuss your client cases with your mentor.

  • Receive reassurance, guidance, and suggestions for approaches and strategies tailored to your practice.

5. Final video review for certification: Submit your final video for certification in advance of the session, along with your audit.

  • During the session, which should be 45 minutes to 1 hour, your mentor will provide constructive feedback and guidance.

6. Review of case studies and certification documentation: Have one of your case study write-ups reviewed, along with a few practice sessions and your certification documentation. Gain clarity and feedback to refine your work.

7. Final submission support: Your mentor will glance through your final submission documents and provide support and encouragement to help you submit them in a timely manner.

8. Close-out call: Conclude your mentoring program with a close-out call, where you’ll receive feedback on your progress, celebrate your achievements, and reflect on what you’ve gained from the program.
